Q: Will I have to dance?

A: No. The studio offers a peaceful space to explore free movement but just sitting is fine too.

Q: Do I have to have some dance experience?

A: Not at all. This is a form of therapy accessible for all ages, abilities and experience.

Q: What should I wear?

A: Layers and loose clothing are best. Comfort is key. There is a changing room and toilets.

Q: What sort of problems can be helped by Dance Movement Psychotherapy?

A: DMP can alleviate difficulties in many areas of your life including the following: Stress and anxiety caused by work pressures, bereavement, divorce, change of career; mental distress caused by sexual abuse, neglect, loss, physical illness, injury; depression; lack of confidence and self-esteem; problems with sustaining relationships.

Q: How long is a session?

A: An individual session will last one hour and a group one hour and a quarter.

Q: How often should I come to DMP?

A: Weekly is best. Twice weekly may be offered if extra support is needed.

Q: How many sessions will I need?

A: This depends on you - however it is usual to contract for a month in the initial phase. Following a review at the end of the first month a plan is agreed with a date for the next review. Weekly attendance for a minimum of 3 months is usually beneficial. Endings are best discussed and planned as this can raise important issues in the therapeutic process.

Q: How do I pay?

A: You will be invoiced in advance for the following month. You will pay for missed sessions unless they have been agreed a month in advance. There will be no fee when the therapist is on leave.

Q: Is DMP suitable for men and women, children and older people?

A: Yes, DMP accommodates people of all ages, gender and physical ability. It is the aim of this practice to offer a respectful and high quality service to all people whatever their ethnicity, class, religious belief, political stance, physical and intellectual ability.
